July 4th is always a lot of fun at the pool. And today will be no exception. Festivities begin this morning at 8:30am. Here is the list of today’s activities:
July 4th Activities:
Old Farm Parents / Coaches / Swimmers / Divers Relays
When: 8:30am at the pool
Details: Now is your chance to show your kid you can race across the pool, too! Don’t stay in your hot house with no power. Cool off this morning with some fun.
When: Signups at 9:30am at Farmland Elementary School; Parade begins at 10am
Details: The parade will be led by our friendly neighborhood Rockville Fire Department in their truck! During the parade we hold our bike and stroller (or any other mode of tranportation ) and pets decorating contest with judges along the route.
Live Band: Throwing Wrenches!
Details: Our very own Nick Morper and his band will be performing a set on the deck of the pool. Nick (a swim and dive team member) and his band, Throwing Wrenches, just performed this past weekend at a Battle of the Bands at the 9:30 Club. Come down and check them out!
Kids Games, Project Tables
When: Ongoing throughout the day
Details: We will have several tables setup with various kid friendly activities and contest. Assume there will be some whipped cream involved at some point 🙂
Watermelon Relay, Adults vs Guards Watermelon Water Polo
When: early afternoon
Details: Who knew watermelons could be so useful? Taste great and with a generous lathering of Vaseline, make for a great competition tool.
American Flag Neighborhood Sponsorship:
As usual , we are asking for voluntary sponsorships of $20 from families, who will then receive a “flag ” along the route of the parade. This sponsorship money helps us to keep providing fun activities for our members as well as important upkeep for our community pool! So please, if your family would like to sponsor a flag, you can leave your donation in an envelope marked with “July 4th” – with your name (as you’d like it to read ) on the envelope.
We love being able to keep improving and giving our members what they like in a neighborhood pool. BTW: the kids get a big kick out of seeing their family’s name in big print along the route. Believe me, I only made that mistake the first year I was here! Try explaining to YOUR kids why his family is the only one not listed! If your family are not yet members of our pool, you are so welcome, and please also consider a donation; this helps in our endeavor to provide this service to the whole community every July 4th , and we would be proud to hang your names as donors as well!
Please have the donations (checks preferred ) in by July 1st so we have plenty of time to make our flags. I might also be in circulation amongst the crowds this week to collect sponsorships. Collecting money is something I abhor , but it’s a necessary evil , so please be kind!! ( and thankful I didn’t enlist YOU to collect the moolah!)
Volunteer to Help!
We need help with the Parade, Concessions, Crafts, Games and more. Please check out the following volunteer opportunities and help where you can:
Please help is make this day a success for all our young ones by helping the day run smoothly. We have all sorts of positions available, from judges to grillers to manicurists! Be part of the fun by volunteering. Also, ensure yourself a lounge chair by signing up! All volunteers for the day will be guaranteed a chair to sit in!
Let’s pray for a sunny happy July 4th, and thanks in advance!!
