Browsing "General Announcements (pool closings, events)"
In the coming weeks, you will be getting a great deal of information regarding the 2015 season, including membership renewal details, swim and dive team signups and more. In the meantime, we thought it would be helpful to share with you that we’ve posted a lot of information already on the pool’s calendar — primarily all of the dive and swim meet information. So if you’re wanting to plan your summer holiday around your kiddo’s activities, check out the pool calendar now.
Subscribe to what you need
Our pool’s calendar can be easily synchronized to you own personal calendar. To do so, visit the calendar page on our website, then click on the “Subscribe” button at the bottom of the page. Once you do that, you will see various choices based on the type of calendar you wish to synchronize (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, etc). Just click the appropriate link and follow the instructions. Pretty simple. The nice thing about this is that if there is ever a change or addition to the pool calendar, that change will be automagically applied to your own calendar too.
But I don’t want to subscribe to everything
Fear not. You don’t have to subscribe to all categories of information at the pool. Let’s say you just want to know when the social activities will be taking place. In that case, click on the “Categories” filter at the top of the calendar page. From there, you would select “General Events.” Once that is selected, you will see the calendar items below filter to just that category. Need to subscribe to two or more categories? You can do that too. Just use the Control key (PC) or Command key (Mac) to ad-hoc select the categories you need. Once you have your filter established, then go down to the bottom and select subscribe (pick your calendar type) and following the subsequent instructions for your particular calendar.
I promise this is very easy to do 🙂
Greetings Old Farm Swim and Paddle Tennis Club Members!
Despite the cold February weather, the Board of Directors is already hard at work planning for the 2015 swim season. I’d like to start by welcoming our newest Board member, Cindy Zelaya, who will be working as our Director for Special Projects. She replaces Suzanne Stack who retired from the Board last year. We also welcome Shannon Dietrich as our new Bookkeeper. She replaces Mary Beth May who served as our bookkeeper for several years. Thank you for a job well done and welcome to our new Board members.
As we finalize the budget for 2015 and prepare to announce our dues structure, let me tell you about what we are planning. First and most important, we have discussed with Georgetown Aquatics, our Management Company, the importance of the guard staff enforcing all the pool rules. We want to make sure your safety is our first priority and enforcement of the rules will help provide the safe environment we all want.
We are presently configuring new membership management software for the 2015 season that will allow for more controlled access to the pool. This software will require members to electronically check-in upon arrival at the pool. We will soon be providing more information on this software, the membership renewal process, the 2015 dues, and the check-in procedure.
As for physical changes and upgrades for the 2015 season, we are currently planning on replacing the pool pump motors and filter system. The current system, although very effective, is 50 years old and has been expensive to repair and maintain over the years. In fact, last season we had to go to extraordinary means to keep the system functioning. The new filter system will be installed before the start of the season. We will also be purchasing additional round pool tables, chairs and umbrellas to provide additional seating around the deck.
We are planning several other modifications and upgrades, most of which might not be as obvious to you, but we hope will enhance your experience at the pool.
Looking forward to a great 2015 season!
Just a reminder that the General Membership Meeting will be held on Wednesday November 19th at 7:30 pm at LUXMANOR ELEMENTARY School on Tilden Lane. This is a change in location from what we previously announced. You are invited to meet the Board, hear a review of the 2014 season and will be an opportunity for any questions you may have to be answered.
If you have not done so, please complete and submit your electronic ballot for the 2015 Board of Directors. We have received some questions about the need to include your name when you submit your vote. If you are uncomfortable, you do not need to include your name and address for your vote to count.
Below is the slate of candidates for the 2015 Board of Directors and Nominating Committee.

In the spirit of Halloween, we thought it would be great to do a scary movie night at the pool. And this one is scary. No young kids allowed. We’re talking high schoolers and adults. October 25th, 7pm. Bring a beach/soccer chair, dress warm and maybe someone you don’t mind hanging (tightly) to during the show. RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/290114721190943/
Here is some inspiration. Bookmark this page for that miserable early February morning when you’ve had enough of winter.
Do you miss those summer friends already? Do you want to help fund some necessary repairs this off-season too? Do these great things and have a great time too by coming to the First Annual Old Farm Pool Oktoberfest. To make our Oktoberfest a success, we need some supplies from you (see below). Please sign-up for what you can bring!
The pool will provide entertainment, grills, venue and some basic meats and organization. The proceeds from your $10 per adult donation will be used to offset some necessary repairs around the pool during the off season.
See you there!
Yesterday marked the official end of the 2014 swim season at Old Farm Pool and the celebration of our 50th season. The weather was perfect and we had lots of people enjoying one last day at the pool, culminating with the annual doggy dip and stacking of the deck furniture. Thanks to all who helped.
Just a reminder that if you are interested in becoming more involved with the pool and becoming a member of the Board of Directors, please let us know by contacting us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your Board of Directors still has lots to do this season as they wrap up operations for 2014 and start thinking about 2015. Not only that, don’t forget about Paddle Tennis and Pickleball that will start in the late fall.
If you have thoughts or ideas, please let us know.
Looking forward to hearing from you and have a safe autumn and rest of the year.
It’s hard to believe, but the pool season is coming to a close. The kids are all back in school now and before you know it, the leaves will be turning soon too. But let’s not focus on that for the moment. Instead, let’s focus on the last great event we’ll be having at the pool.
A week from today (Sunday September 7th) we will be having our last day in the pool and festivities, including the “world famous” Old Farm Pool Doggie Dip. So, without any further adieu, here is the schedule for Sunday:
1:00 Light Concessions
3:30 – 6:30 Rocklands Food Truck
6:00 – Everyone out of the pool
6:00- Doggie Dip (we will have some doggie treats)
6:45 – Clean up starts!
And as a reminder, this is the last event of the season. While we were contemplating a Saturday evening adult party, we’ve elected to have an event for everyone during the day Sunday instead.
As the 2014 pool season draws to a close, just a reminder that you need to check the lost and found basket located near the front door of the pool building. After the pool officially closes for the season, any towels remaining will be donated to an animal shelter and any other items will be thrown away.
We have enjoyed a great summer and it’s hard to believe that the 2014 swim season is coming to an end. With the opening of Montgomery County schools, we are modifying our schedule to account for many of our kids going back to school this week, so please mark your calendars to show the following schedule of pool hours:
- Monday August 25 – Thursday August 28 – 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- Friday August 29 – 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm
- Saturday August 30 – Sunday August 31 – 11:00 – 10:00 pm
- Monday September 1 (Labor Day) – 11:00 am – 8:00 pm
- Tuesday Sept 2 – Friday Sept 5th – Pool Closed
- Saturday Sept 6th – Adult End of Season Party – 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm
- Sunday Sept 7th
- 1:00 Light Concessions
- 3:30 – 6:30 Rocklands Food Truck
- 6:00 – Everyone out of the pool
- 6:00- Doggie Dip (we will have some doggie treats)
- 6:45 – Clean up starts!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool!
