Please join us this Saturday evening for our Annual Wine and Cheese Party. This annual event is a great way to start off the pool season and chat with neighbors and meet new friends. The event begins at 7:30 pm. Cost per guest is $20 in-advance and $25 at the door. You can pay by dropping a check or cash off at the pool (front desk) in a sealed envelope marked “Wine & Cheese.” On the outside of the envelope, please write the name(s) of who would be attending. [The pool has envelopes on hand. If the staff does not know where they are, please inform them that they are in the middle cupboard above the counter.] Members are allowed to bring guests who are not pool members.
You must actually pay in-advance to receive the discounted rate. Unlike in year’s past, you can not just sign up early to receive the discount. The advance sign ups help us to better estimate the expected attendance. If you have any questions, please email Scott Speier (email@example.com), our resident wine expert who runs this event every year. We hope to see you there.
FINS, a program run by Nick Kaufman dedicated to teaching swimmers better techinque, has begun its summer program at Old Farm Pool. Between now and the end of July, FINS will be using lanes at the pool on the following schedule:
Afternoons: Noon – 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Evenings: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday
While there may be as many as two extra lanes used in the pool at these times, all facilities will be open for use by the membership, including most of the main pool’s swimming area (along with the entire shallow end, diving well, and the “baby” pool).
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the FINS program, or you are interested in signing up for FINS, please contact Jay Matson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 2012 season is underway and in full swing with a high percentage of renewals and a huge surge in new memberships, especially among young families. Opening weekend weather was perfect, the pool was very well attended and we sold out of all the food we had to sell at the Café Old Farm Bar-B-Q. Swim and Dive teams are preparing for the first meets, and we continue to receive complements on the new deck furniture and umbrellas. Our members and guests are enjoying some of our “extras” including the grills, Friday night pizzas, volleyball, basketball and ping pong. Just a few quick reminders and notes to help make everyone’s pool experience enjoyable.

The swim team season is upon us. A couple of items for all our members to note . . .
1. The pool will be closed whenever we have home swim meets. There are only five home meets scheduled, so the closures are relatively minimal. They are:
- Saturday, June 23 (the pool will open a little late, approximately 11:30 AM)
- Wednesday, June 27 (the pool will close early, at 5:00 PM)
- Saturday, June 30 (the pool will open a little late, approximately 11:30 AM)
- Tuesday, July 3 (the pool will close early, at 5:00 PM)
- Saturday July 14 (the pool will open a little late, approximately 11:30 AM)
2. The swim and dive teams have their end of the season banquet on Sunday, June 22. We still need to finalize the venue, but on many occasions in the past we have held the banquet at the pool. In that case, the pool would close early (approximately 5:30 PM). More details on this in the very near future.
3. If you have a child 18 or younger who is interested in the swim or dive teams, we would love to have him/her join us! Any degree of experience, including none at all, is welcome! For dive team, contact Dori Morper (email@example.com). For swim team, contact Gail Minsk (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Jay Matson (email@example.com).
Tuesday evening volleyball will be back again from 7 – 9 PM at Old Farm Pool this summer. With people busy with school, the game tonight is questionable, but we should begin a regular game starting June 12. We trucked in 18 tons of fresh, new sand and spread it around to create a great surface. The courts have been in heavy use by the kids over the weekend. To help organize things, please shoot an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in playing, and he will send a weekly reminder email to those who have indicated interest.
Thank you Flippin’ Pizza for a Great Fundraiser!
This past Friday, we threw a fundraiser party with 35 pizzas copiously donated to us by Flippin’ Pizza. Not only was the pizza outstanding, but we netted nearly $500 (even after a generous tip). Thank you to Suzanne Stack, who spearheaded this effort, and the other volunteers who made this event a success in raising money toward the planned tot lot upgrade. We will likely plan other such fundraisers in the future to provide the little ones with a nicer play area on the back portion of our property.
This summer, FINS Swimming will begin offering summer programs out of our wonderful pool.
We will offer a 7 week program, starting on Wednesday June 13th, that will focus on technique, technique, technique! Many of our swimmers will be swimming for their summer swim teams and looking to add FINS practices to their swimming schedule. And lots of FINS Swimmers who don’t have a summer team will also be joining us.
FINS will offer the following programs that swimmers can participate in once or twice a week:
Back by popular demand, Old Farm Pool will be offering early-morning lap swimming from 5:45 AM until 7:15 AM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday…from Monday June 11 through Friday August 10.
We’ll have the pizza, you bring the beverages!
Enjoy the evening with friends and family while helping to raise funds for our planned new playground equipment. Flippin’ Pizza has generously donated 30 pies to help us with the fundraiser, and all proceeds will go toward the planned tot lot upgrade. Pizzas will cost $15 by the pie and $3 per slice. Unless you preorder a whole pie, all pizzas provided will be cheese. If you wish to order in-advance, you can choose one topping for free from these choices (sausage, pepperoni, meatballs, mushroom, green pepper, roasted red peppers, onions, or tomatoes). Just send an email to email@example.com prior to June 5, and your pie (with your name attached) will be available for pick up at the pool between 5 – 6 PM on June 8.
All members of the pool have received a free 10-visit guest pass, placed in your binder page at the front desk, as a thank you for supporting the pool. This pass card is only valid for the 2012 season, so please use it (or lose it) to introduce friends and neighbors to the pool. Also, remember that you receive a free 10-visit guest pass (without expiration) every time you refer someone who joins the pool. Just tell them to mention your name when they join/complete the membership form, and the pass will appear in your binder page automagically. If you have referred someone and did not receive credit, please just email Patrick May (who handles membership) at firstname.lastname@example.org. Remember, more members brings more revenue and a better pool for everyone.
