As you may recall, one of the new investments we’ve made for the pool this year is a membership automation system. Not only does it significantly improve the member registration process, but it also helps us account for who is at the pool at any point in time.
A great benefit of the system is a streamlined means to sign in each time you or any of your family members are at the pool. This is done courtesy of our new Old Farm Pool membership cards. Beginning this season, all members — even the “littlest eagle” in your nest — will have their very own membership card. A simple bar code scan and you’re checked in for the day.
Cards will be available at the front desk upon your first visit. And for those of you attending this upcoming weekend’s rockin’ preseason kickoff party at the pool (featuring the music of Drive Shaft), you can get your family’s cards there (please show closer to 6pm for pickup).
During the off season, we work on all sorts of projects to help improve our pool and it’s amenities. And the trees are no exception. So what happened to our favorite shade tree you ask? We recently had a tree specialist come in and do an assessment of all the trees on the property. He found a stress crack in the large tree on the east side of the pool near the guard stand. In looking at the options it was either cut down the whole tree or cut the large limb before it broke during a storm and potentially damaged the pool or hurt someone. With much concern, we opted to cut the limb in the hope to save the entire tree.
Out with the old and in with the new! If you’ve noticed some work being done by the pump room it’s because we are in the process of upgrading (replacing) the 50 year old pump and filtration system which valiantly served the Old Farm community.
we will have all this work complete well in advance of our opening in just a few short weeks!
It’s hard to believe the pool opens in only 13 days. Before we unlock the gates for the season, there are lots of things happening including Swim/Dive Registration Night on May 14th at Farmland Elementary starting at 7:00pm. Sign up for the teams, meet the coaches and say hello to everyone after a long winter. We are also having a pre-season party on Saturday May 16th at the pool. We will have a band and a chance to enjoy the pool before we officially open.
Work to get the pool ready is well underway with some of our additional deck furniture arriving, complete replacement of the pump and filter system and a major trimming of the large tree near the diving well. There was a stress crack that could have eventually caused part of the tree to fall. The tree still provides plenty of shade and it is much safer for everyone.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool!
Just a friendly reminder that we’re having a fundraiser at CalTor tomorrow night from 5:00 to 9:00pm. Just mention “GOOF!” and 25% of your order amount will be donated to the Old Farm Swim and Dive teams.

Please tell us you had a chance to get outside this past weekend? Wasn’t the weather amazing? You know what this means… the pool season is just about to start! We decided to kick things off in a really fun way. “Technically speaking” the season starts Memorial Day weekend, but we’re cheating this year. We’re going to do an early kickoff party Saturday May 16th. This adults only shindig is going to be a lot of fun. As members, your $10 ticket gets you munchies, bevies and great entertainment from a local ensemble called Drive Shaft. They’ll be playing favorites from the 80s to today.
Show early and get your 2015 membership cards
Beginning this year, all pool members will have their own membership card (kids too). Come early and pickup your family’s cards. Rumor has it the line for the munchies and beverages will be shorter at that time too.
Got a friend? Bring ’em!
Since this is a preseason event, we thought we’d extend the invitation out to non-members too. If they choose to become members, they can apply the cost of their tickets to their initiation fee.

Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs
Registration for the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs will not be accepted until after the pool has opened. Those swimmers interested in the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs can sign up for an assessment session on Registration Night or online via Signup Genius but will be able to register only after an assessment has been conducted.
This year, in order to maintain a safe environment and to ensure quality instruction for our youngest swimmers, assessments will be conducted on all swimmers interested in the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs prior to registration. Assessment sessions will be held June 1st-5th. Each swimmer should sign up for one assessment slot. During assessments, swimmers will be evaluated by the coaching staff to determine the appropriate group placement based on the criteria for each of the programs (see program descriptions below). Coaches will make swimmer placement recommendations by 6/5/15. Practices for both LE/PT will begin on 6/8.
In order to reduce the size of instruction groups and to minimize closures of the shallow section during the busy afternoon hours, Little Eagles afternoons will meet twice a week—either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday (date swaps cannot be accommodated). Little Eagles morning swimmers will have access to practice five days per week. Groups will be limited to 12 swimmers per session. The registration fee for both programs (a.m. and p.m.) will be the same as it is for swim team. Minimum requirements for participation are:
- Age 4 or older and fully toilet trained
- Comfortable putting face into the water and blowing bubbles.
- Comfortable in the pool under the supervision of OF coaches and in a group environment
The Pre-Team will meet 4/5 times per week (depending on B meets) in either the afternoon or morning. Swimmers need to commit to either the morning or afternoon sessions. The Pre-Team groups will be limited to 14 swimmers per session. Minimum requirements for participation are:
- Must be able to swim the length of the diving well unassisted and have the stamina to do so a few times in a row under coach supervision.
- Must have a general understanding of freestyle and are familiar with the basic components of the stroke
**Please note: During Pre-Team and Little Eagles practices, parents are invited to watch from a distance. The coaches need space to work with the children without parents immediately next to the swimmers. If you feel that your child is not ready to participate in practice without your encouragement, they are probably not ready for these programs. Private and group lessons are available from FINS for those swimmers needing a little more attention.
The activities just keep coming at Old Farm Pool. The latest program to be introduced for this season is water aerobics. We will be offering 16 classes too. Choose between eight shallow water workouts each Sunday morning or eight aqua zumba each Thursday night. Of course you can take all 16 too. Registration is very limited, so consider signing up today. More details can be found on our Water Aerobics page.
