Here ye, here ye the Old Farm Beer Club begins Friday

Jun 15, 2014   //   by oldfarmpool   //   General Announcements (pool closings, events)  //  No Comments

Back by popular demand, ye old “snobby beer” club has returned. Actually, it never left, but now we’re making it official. The rules are simple. Show up to the pool any Friday night after 7pm with your beverage of choice. One for you, one to share on the table.

The connoisseurs in our ranks strongly discourage anything with the names Bud, Coors, Miller or similar in the name of your beverage of choice. But bring what you may, just be prepared to be mocked.

See you under the tent Friday night.

Message from the President

Jun 13, 2014   //   by President   //   Notes from the President  //  No Comments

The 2014 season has gotten off to a great start. Our membership numbers have increased over 2013 and that is very good news for all of us. We have received lots of positive comments on the modifications and improvements implemented this season, so thanks to everyone on the Board of Directors and volunteers for the hard work you have done.

Please join us on Saturday June 21st for the Wine and Cheese event starting at 7:30pm and show your support for the pool by purchasing our new line of Old Farm Pool merchandise!

We are looking for volunteers to help up with activities at the pool on July 4th. If you are interested, please contact Katie Tietgen, our Director for Social Events.

Just to quickly review a few item that have come to our attention and we ask for your support.

– You are welcome to use the shallow area of the pool while FINS students are there for morning classes. If it becomes crowded, FINS will shift to the area under the portable guard chair.

– We are eliminating the 11:45am adult swim whistle to accommodate our members with young children and allow them more time in the water early in the day.

– The baby pool may not be used during swim meets. Although there are guards at pool, they are not on deck specifically watching baby pool.

– Please keep all food and beverages in the grassed or patio area or in close proximity to the tables. There should be no food or beverage on the deck and certainly not in the water. Please put all trash and recyclables in the conveniently located containers around the pool area.

– We remind you that there is also no eating in baby pool area and no deck furniture in baby pool.

– We ask our parents with kids on the swim team, please help clean up the team area after meets so that we can re-open the pool for all our members after meets end as quickly as possible.

Looking forward to seeing you at the pool!

Opening Week a great success

Jun 2, 2014   //   by President   //   News, Notes from the President  //  No Comments

The opening week of our 50th season of operations at Old Farm has been a great success.  The weather over Memorial Day was perfect, the water is nice and…….refreshing!!!

The Wifi is now working at the pool, you can now access the internet from the pool deck and we have added a signal booster so that there should be a strong signal everywhere on deck.  The guards will give you the password so that you can log on.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool

Dive Team Update!

Jun 2, 2014   //   by President   //   Dive Team, General Announcements (pool closings, events), News  //  No Comments

We are up to 20 divers, once all arrive. Our first meet is on June 15th! Yes, Father’s Day. It seems to be a dive league tradition to have a meet on this day. In anticipation, our parents need to be prepared to help with table work(3-4), judging (2), referee-ing(1) and concessions. This is a copy of what the league sent me:

Our first judges/refs clinic will be at the Ashton Pool on Sunday, June 8th at 10 am (conveniently located and timed to precede the Ashton Rookie Invitational!) Doug Beavers will run the judging portion and our Rules Committee will run the referee certification portion of the clinic. Please check the website to see whether your veteran judges/refs have current certifications (must have taken a clinic in Summer 2012 or later) and ENCOURAGE LOTS OF NEW PARENTS TO ATTEND. Also, please encourage all your referees to attend a clinic, even if they’re currently certified. Our Rules Committee is bulking up the referee test to better educate our referees and referees will the opportunity to learn more about our new line up rule, which we’re introducing for the summer.

For judges/referees who cannot make the Sunday clinic, we will have three additional clinics: Tuesday June 10 (6:30 pm) at Potomac Woods; Friday June 13th (6:30 pm) at Rock Creek; and Thursday June 19th (6:30 p.m.) at East Gate.

I am attending the June 8th judging clinic if anyone wants to carpool.
