Old Farm will be holding its Annual Registration Night on Wednesday, April 26th at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria at Farmland Elementary. Members of the Board of Directors will be on hand to answer membership questions. It’s also a great opportunity to submit those last minute membership dues before the early bird rates expire on April 30th.
Swim and Dive Team Registration
Coaches and Representatives of the Swim and Dive Teams will be on hand to answer questions regarding the swim and dive programs, team suits and lessons programs. Registration for both the Swim and Dive Teams will be done online through Team Unify (opening in the coming days). Payments can be made in person at Registration Night, paid through the Pool Store or submitted by mail.
Information will also be available on Tollefson’s Masters Swim Program and Coach Dorrer’s Triathalon Training Programs for kids and adults. Pool Spiritwear order forms will be available as well.
We’re looking forward to another great summer at Old Farm! Come by on the 26th to learn more about all of the fun in store.
It measures 14 feet x 30 feet, and it replaces the canopy structure that we had near the grills. We constructed this pavilion after hearing feedback that our members would like to see something more substantial and visually pleasing. I’m sure you will agree this is a welcome addition to the club.
The Board would like to express our great thanks to the following folks who made major contributions to the pavilion project.
Old Farm member Chris Scango generously donated materials and the services of his company, Capitol Hardscapes, to provide the concrete footers that are the foundation of the pavilion. While his crew was at the pool, they also repaired a number of loose stones in the deck and in the retaining walls. If you would like to repair or add stonework in your yard, please give Capitol Hardscapes a call. Thank you, Chris.
Another Old Farm member, Danielle Bennett of Danielle Bennett Photography, took it upon herself to raise funds for the pavilion project. She raised and donated $470 through the sale of Old Farm cups and photo sessions. If you have photography needs, please give Danielle a call. Thank you, Danielle.
In another improvement to our facilities, the poolhouse roof, gutters, and downspouts were replaced during the off-season. Although our insurance proceeds from the May 2016 hail storm covered much of the work, Kris Konstruction provided certain upgrades that were not within the scope of the insurance proceeds. For example, Kris Konstruction donated gutter guards and some of our downspouts. And, as you may know, Kris Konstruction also sponsored Old Farm activities in 2016. Please contact Kris Konstruction for all of your window, roofing, siding, and building needs. Thank you, Kris Konstruction.

My name is Missy Maloney and I am the Social Chair for Old Farm Pool this summer. I am looking for some volunteers to help with our social agenda. I have been told that we can have as little or as much as there is enthusiasm for! I have a few volunteers already and a number of members thinking about helping in some way. I would like to get the activities on the calendar and setup now. Would you consider helping with one event? There might be one activity that you have particularly liked in the past and would like to see repeated… maybe with your own ideas! My goal is to not overburden any one member but to bring our community closer. Please call or email if you would like to help!
We could do this if someone is interested in coordinating this activity… a couple of friends, maybe? (Last Year: Saturday, May 16: Rockin’ Pre-Season Party (7:00 – ): We were thinking about a fundraiser night at either Gilley’s or Seven Locks Brewing Co although a coordinator could do whatever they like. Potentially a beer-tasting could be setup? Could be bring-your-own food at the Seven Locks Brewing Co. or, they sometimes have a food truck set up.
Opening Day Weekend Would like a Coordinator and a couple of other sets of hands.We have either had grills set up for one/two days (hamburgers/hotdogs pizza). This year I had a food truck one day.
Adult Wine and Cheese Scott Speier and might like a couple of other set of hands. (Last Year: Saturday, June 11: 2016 Adult Wine and Cheese Party (7:00pm to 10:00pm): Scott Speier is already on-board to arrange the wines. It would be great to have a co-leader to handle the following:
Beer-tasting: Because so many people are into beer – we added a beer tasting as well – maybe 4 beers?
Apps, etc: Costco run for appetizers, paper products and soft drinks.
Music: There is a local band formed by neighbors and pool members – the Whippoorwills – that have played (for free) at the party. It is a great party and still very well liked by members. If they cannot do it, perhaps the proper playlists would be setup?
Tickets were $20/person or $25 at the door. We do have a card reader now so people can use credit cards.
4 – 6 Friday Food Truck Nights Coordinator: Lynne Agoston.. She might enjoy an extra person to help so she coordinates half the summer and someone else coordinates half the summer.
Sponsored Happy Hour We could do this if someone is interested in coordinating this activity. We had a roofing company come and sponsor a Friday night happy hour. It was a big hit – and free for us so it might be worth looking to see if someone wanted to “sponsor” a happy hour.
Kids’ Luau and/or DJ Any parent interested in getting this going? We used to do it…
Fourth of July Parade and Party Is anyone interested in finding and coordinating some teens to run the games/activities? Would anyone like to coordinate the food/concessions? (Last Year: Saturday, July 4 (10:30 – 4 p.m.)): We put on the party part. We can have food trucks or grill. We had lots of different games, coin toss, watermelon relay, dive contest, face painting, ices, etc. A little different year to year. We have had to be flexible around rain – but have managed to put on some kind of party every year.
End of the Summer Adult Pool Party We could do this if someone is interested in coordinating this activity. (Last Year: Saturday, August 29: (7:00pm –): Could be very casual and bring your own.
Labor Day/Doggie Dig/Pool Closing We could do this if someone is interested in coordinating this activity.(Last Year: Monday, Sept. 7) 2 years we had grills one day. If we had beer or wine left over – I would serve that. Could line up a food truck for the Doggie Dip.

The ANNUAL MEETING of the Old Farm Swim and Paddle Tennis Club will be held at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday November 16, 2016, at the Farmland Elementary School Multipurpose Room. The Board of Directors encourages you to attend this important annual meeting.
There are three important issues on the November 16th agenda:
1. New Board of Directors Election
First is the election of new members to our Board of Directors. We urge you to participate using the electronic voting system described below. The nominating committee proposes the election and/or re-election of the following candidates to fill four Director vacancies and three Nominating Committee seats:

2. Review of 2016 swim and paddle tennis season
Second on the agenda will be a review of the 2016 swim and paddle tennis season.
Georgetown Aquatics continued to provide us pool management and guard operations this season, and we received many compliments about the quality of our managers and staff as they enforced the pool rules. In particular, we are grateful for the good work of Mark Kibuuka, who managed the pool staff very effectively during the 2016 season. We intend to continue our relationship with Georgetown Aquatics in 2017.
In response to a referendum of the membership, the board voted to install pool water heaters in 2016. By all accounts, the heaters effectively took the edge off of the early season chill, so we had stable and comfortable water temperatures throughout the season. The board has set the water temperature such that the water is warm enough to be comfortable and refreshing, but not so warm that physical activities such as lap swimming are adversely affected.
In 2016, the board also procured a customized pool cover for off-season use which is now installed. The cover is intended to keep leaves and debris out of the pool during the off-season. Our intent is that this will make pre-season cleaning easier and more effective, because leaves have a tendency to stain the pool whitecoating when they sit in the water during the off-season. Because pre-season cleaning should be easier and less stressful to the whitecoating, we are expecting the cover will extend the life of our whitecoating. This is important, because replacement of the whitecoating is one of the most expensive periodic maintenance items incurred by the Club.
We additionally performed a comprehensive overhaul and upgrade of our platform tennis courts in 2016. This included resurfacing of both courts, lining both courts with platform tennis and pickleball regulation boundaries, replacement of all screens, and installation of locking snowboards.
During the 2016 season, we were privileged to have many new members join us, and we welcome them to our community. Although our financial situation remains stable, our overall membership numbers dropped slightly from 2015, which resulted in lower revenue for 2016. As a result of this revenue decline, the board deferred some planned capital improvements during 2016, thus maintaining our balanced budget for the year. The Board also continues to explore alternative ways of generating income. The final membership numbers for 2016 were as follows:
The Old Farm Swim and Dive Teams had great success in 2016. Our Swim Team won its division and will be competing in a higher division in 2017. Our coaching has been provided by the dynamic FINS Swimming program for the last four years, and the team’s ascent is directly attributable to FINS. We are currently renegotiating our contract with FINS for the 2017 season. The Dive Team had a huge uptick in participation and ended up having one of its best seasons in recent memory by finishing second overall in Division IV. The Board is in the process of searching for the dive team coaching staff for 2017.
During the 2016 season, we again had several special programs operating at Old Farm Pool:
FINS Swimming provided swimming lessons
Wet Yet? Fitness provided water aerobics
Coach Dorrer provided triathlon training
Tollefson Swimming provided masters swimming
We expect that all of these programs will be returning in the 2017 season.
The pool hosted the following social events in 2016:

Fourth of July Celebration (in conjunction with the Greater Farmland Civic Association)
Numerous Friday Night Food Trucks
We also had planned to host a kickoff party before the beginning of the 2016 season, but it was canceled due to rain.
In 2016, the Club launched a pickleball-only membership for those who are not already full club members or paddle-tennis-only members. The pickleball-only membership has proven to be a great success, with 30 members joining.
The platform tennis season is set to commence on November 1 on our fully renovated courts. All are invited to play, and we hope to schedule beginner programs in the near future. Please watch for our e-mails.
3. Review potential capital improvement projects
Third on the agenda will be a discussion about the future capital projects and expenditures that are being considered by the Board. These projects include:
Installing a pavilion on the north patio (near the grills) to replace the existing tent structure
Baby pool replacement/enhancements
Parking lot resurfacing/enlargement (to accommodate additional pickleball courts)
Removal of sand volleyball court and potential installation of multi-sport surface.
These potential upgrades to the pool facilities are costly, but will provide improved services that we believe our members want. We will discuss these items as well as how to pay for them at the November General Membership meeting, so we ask that you attend and let us know what you think.
The Board has already approved the resurfacing of the diving boards and the replacement of the pool house roof for completion prior to the 2017 season. The roof replacement is being funded by insurance proceeds related to damage incurred from the May 2, 2016, hailstorm.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank all members of the Board of Directors for volunteering countless hours during the 2016 season. I would especially like to thank Dave Ohlrich, Dan Rudolph, and Katie McDermott, who will be leaving the Board as of November 30, 2016. Also at that time, we will be asking for your help to collect and move the deck furniture into the pool house for the winter. We hope to see you there!

We will be having our third annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 8 at 6:00 PM. This year, we’re excited to have a great local band, Driven to Clarity, providing the music. If you purchased tickets to our Rockin’ 2016 Kickoff Party (which was canceled due to weather), and you did not receive a refund, your tickets will be honored at this event. Otherwise, tickets are on sale here. This event is open to non-members, as well, so invite your friends!

Fun at the Club doesn’t have to stop on Labor Day!
All continuing and temporary members are invited to try out our pickleball and paddle tennis courts to see if they might like these games. Our active and growing number of pickleballers will be playing through the Fall and into the Winter, weather permitting. The paddle tennis season starts in October and generally goes through April. There is no additional charge for pickleball or paddle tennis if you are already a member of the Club.
