Greetings, Old Farm Members!
It’s hard to imagine we’re already approaching the halfway point of the pool season. Here are a few items of interest for July.
Kris Konstruction Happy Hour
Friday, July 15 from 5:30-7:30 PM
Our friends from Kris Konstruction will be sponsoring a happy hour at the pool this Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Kris will be providing the food and drink. If you don’t know Kris Konstruction, they are a company that specializes in hail damage repair. They have already replaced many of your neighbors’ roofs in Old Farm and North Farm. Kris representatives will be available to talk about working with your insurance company to potentially get a new roof as a result of the May 2nd hail storm. They can also set up a free no-obligation roof inspection. More information is available here.
We’ve been noticing an uptick in children being left at the pool without supervision. Please remember that our rules require children 10 and under to be supervised by an adult at all times. Thank you for your cooperation.
July 4th Recap
Despite cold and rainy weather, we had a great time at the pool on July 4th. In fact, our pool management company said we were the only pool they saw with a crowd on that day. Many thanks to all of the volunteers that made that day possible, but most especially to Katie Teitgen. I’m always impressed by the great patriotic spirit of our neighborhood on Independence Day!
Wedding Ring Found
We have an especially important item in our lost-and-found: a wedding ring. If you are missing a wedding ring, please e-mail me at email@example.com and describe what you’re missing.
We have lots of other lost-and-found items, so please take a look at the lost-and-found rack to find your missing items. It’s located near the entrance door and in front of the check-in desk.
That’s it for July. I hope to see you at the pool!

On Wed, June 22nd, kids from Old Farm swim team and F2BK Multisport Club had an opportunity for participate in the first Old Farm Pool Youth Splash & Dash. The event was hosted by Fit 2 B Kids (F2BK) Multisport Club and USAT Coach Christina Dorrer. Young athletes were organized by age groups and participated in a swim followed by a transition into sneakers and a run on the local trail. This event provided a unique opportunity for strong swimmers to use their skills in a multisport event. Many athletes who participated are not on a swim team and are not necessarily strong swimmers, but may excel in running. Still others participated for the enjoyment, exercise and club or race atmosphere. The Splash & Dash is a USAT Sanctioned event and is used to introduce kids to multisport events and the sport of triathlon which also includes biking. Kids in the F2BK Club are training for several local triathlons this summer.
The winners of each category in the Splash and Dash were:
Ages 7-8 (50 meter swim and .5 mile run) – Charlotte Chang with a time of 6:46
Ages 9-10 (100 meter swim and .5 mile run) – Kalen Wells with a time of 8:33
Ages 11-12 (100 meter swim and 1 mile run – Evan Wise with a time of 15:09
Ages 13 – 15 (150 meter swim and 1 mile run) – Chandler Detrich with a time of 10:34
There will be at least two more Splash & Dash events held on July 20th
and August 24th
. The goal for the kids is to see improvement in their time over the summer through training. The cost to participate is $15 and includes a T-shirt. For those kids who are not USAT members, a $10 membership is required which is good for any triathlon races or trainings for a full year (https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Triathlon/Membership-Services/Join-or-Renew
). Anyone interested in learning more about multisport activities and training can still join the F2BK Multisport Club! Information on the club is at www.Fit2BKids.com
or you can contact Christina@fit2bkids.com
It’s exciting to see how popular pickleball has become at Old Farm Pool. It seems we have packed courts all the time. Young and old alike having a ball playing (bad pun). With so much popularity around our pickleball activities, we’ve decided to introduce an Old Farm Pool pickleball membership. If you’re an existing member, you have full access to all pickleball activities. However, if you have a friend that might just be interested in pickleball, this is just the ticket.
Registration form: Old Farm Pool pickleball membership
Pickleball is super easy to learn. We’ve put some great information together on the pool’s website. We’ve also included some rules and “use of the court” considerations too since we are sharing the paddle tennis courts as well as the lower parking area with our fellow pickleballers.
Hello Old Farm Members,
We’re off to a great start to the 2016 season. I’d like to take this opportunity to provide a few reminders about our rules:
No Glass Containers. Please transfer all liquids to plastic or aluminum containers. This is a Montgomery County regulation that we must enforce, or else we can be shut down by the County.
Increased Supervision of Water Guns. We’ve seen increased use of water guns, and a corresponding need for our lifeguards to intervene when they are used. We ask parents to closely monitor your child’s use of water guns and to consider whether your child is responsible enough to use a water gun. Water guns should only be used within the pool, and not on the deck or between the deck and the pool. Lifeguards have discretion to confiscate water guns (or any other pool toys) if they are being used to the detriment of other members or during crowded times. Based on feedback we are receiving from the lifeguards, we may have to ban water guns if they continue to be a problem, so kindly help us keep water gun use well controlled.
Age Limit on Shuffleboard and Cornhole Equipment. We’d like for all members and guests to be able to enjoy the amenities at the club. However, we have found that some of our youngest members have found alternative ways to enjoy our shuffleboard and cornhole equipment. Unfortunately, this has resulted in us having to completely replace the gear. As such, the Board has decided to implement an age limit on the use of shuffleboard and cornhole equipment; starting now, the equipment cannot be checked out by children younger than 13 years old. Kids under 13 years of age can still play, but we now require an adult to check out the equipment and to be present at all times. Thanks for your understanding.
In other news, masters swimming and water aerobics are just starting, so please see our website for more details if you are interested in these programs.
This Friday, we’re having another Food Truck Friday from 5:00-7:00 pm. Pizza Brama will be at the pool serving pizza, roasted appetizers, salads, and desserts from their wood-fired oven. Please see their menu here: www.pizzabrama.com.
See you at the pool!
Hello Old Farm Members,
We’ll be opening for the 2016 season on Saturday, May 28 at noon. Our operating hours can be found here. We are excited to introduce our new pool water heaters on that day. Considering our recent weather, the heaters will be a very welcome addition to the Club.
If you haven’t already renewed your membership for 2016, please do so now. Information on renewing your membership can be found here. You can also contact our membership chairs with questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will again be using our electronic scan entry system at the front desk this year. If you need a new membership card, please ask the front desk attendant when you come to the Club. New members can likewise pick up their membership cards from the front desk.
Swim team practice begins on Tuesday, May 31, and dive team practice beings on Wednesday, June 1. If you haven’t signed your children up for these great summer activities, you can find information on swim team here and on dive team here.
The Swim Team will be conducting assessments on all swimmers interested in the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs prior to registration. Assessment sessions will be held June 6th-9th at either 4:45 pm or 5:45 pm. Please see the information here on how to sign up an an assessment.
The Dive Team is excited to have our own Jackie Jacobson as coach this year. We are also proud to announce that diving champion Kevin Burke will be conducing dive clinics for our team (included in your dive team registration fee) on 5 Saturdays throughout the season. We can’t wait to see him perform. More information can be found here.
Due to the recent weather, the upgrade to our paddle tennis courts has been at a standstill. With a little luck from Mother Nature, we are hoping that work will resume this week.
The Board of Directors has been working hard to ensure that 2016 is another great year at Old Farm. We look forward to seeing you starting Saturday!
Old Farm Swim & Paddle Tennis Club
P.S. Check our website soon for updates on masters swimming, water aerobics, and triathlon training for adults and kids.
Assessments will be conducted on all swimmers interested in the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs prior to registration. Assessment sessions will be held June 6th-9th at either 4:45 pm or 5:45 pm. Reservations for assessment sessions can be made via Sign-Up Genius. Each swimmer should sign up for one 15-minute assessment slot at the Sign-Up Genius here.
Coaches will make swimmer placement recommendations by 6/10/16. Practices for both Pre-Team and Little Eagles will begin on 6/13/16.
**Please note that all children must be 4 years old by 6/1/2016 and completely toilet trained to participate in either program. More detailed descriptions of the programs and their requirements can be viewed here.
We are very happy to announce all members of the Old Farm Dive Team have the opportunity to be trained by ACC diving champion Kevin Burke! Kevin still holds three of the University of Maryland’s four diving records. And did we mention at one time, he held every MCDL boys record too? He’s a member of the US Junior National Team and has competed in the Junior Pan American Games. Yeah, he’s a stud.
These clinics will take place over five Saturdays during the season and are included in your child’s registration fee. So if you (OK your child) wasn’t too sure if they wanted to dive this year, well there is no excuse not to now. This is a fantastic opportunity for new and seasoned divers alike!
We’re starting off the season with the amps turned up to 11. OK, not really 11 but you get the idea. We are thrilled to have an absolutely amazing local band, Driven To Clarity helping us get things moving in the right direction. May 21st is the day and all adults (members and non-members) are welcomed. This will be our first event of the season. You can expect to see all your friends coming out from their winter hibernation for this event and dancing to the blues and alt-rock music of DTC. This one will sell out, so get your tickets now. Oh, and be sure and RSVP on our Facebook event too!
