Afternoon practices for swim team started on Tuesday, May 28. For those 11 and older, meet on the deck at 3:35 (or as soon as you can get there). For those 10 and under on the team, meet on the deck at 4:50. For swimmers who do not know and need to determine whether they are on the team, the Pre-Team or Little Eagles, the coaches can help everyone and determine their appropriate levels. Pre-Team and Little Eagles started meeting Wednesday (May 29), with Pre-Team starting at 5:00 and Little Eagles at 4:30. It is not at all too late to join the swim or dive team as we always have late joiners given school and activity schedules.

There have been some questions about which kids swim in A meets, especially among the younger kids who may not be able to legally swim breast and fly. Determining the entries is a task largely undertaken by the coach, with some relatively minor input from Your Swim Team Gurus. Generally, the swimmers with the top three times in an event will swim in the A meet in that event. However, an individual swimmer cannot swim more than 3 strokes (aside from IMs and relays), so that can cause some juggling to occur. There can also be some adjustment if one of the fastest swimmers early in the season is no longer swimming times that are among the fastest as the season progresses. In addition, our general policy is not to enter swimmers that are going to DQ. As a child progresses, we’ll get to a point where it is not certain whether she/he will DQ or not, so we’ll enter that swimmer in an event if one of our lanes is open. This differs from the B meets. In those meets we’re trying to get the kids as much racing experience as possible, whether they are likely to DQ or not. So, while there are rules of thumb as to how the roster is set for an A meet, there is an “art” to it.
If you have any questions on this issue, please follow up with one of Your Swim Team Gurus.
