Welcome to the Old Farm Dive Team — reigning Montgomery County Diving League (MCDL) Division IV champions!!! Once again, Old Farm will be competing in Division IV of the MCDL in 2017. The other teams in Division IV are similar to Old Farm in size and ability, so the dive meets should be challenging, yet fun, for our kids. Visit MCDL’s website (link) for more information about the league.
Please check your email and the Dive Team Bulletin Board located outside the guard shack for regularly updated information. We mainly communicate via email and texts with weekly updates, meet information, and pool/practice closings – so check your spam filters.
Join the fun and help Old Farm defend its title in 2017!!
Any full family pool member between the ages of 5 and 18 who has successfully completed the swim test required by our pool operator, Georgetown Aquatics, may join the team. To take the test, please see one of our lifeguards before or after practice times.
Head Coach: Katie Young
We are delighted to welcome Katie Young to Old Farm. Katie comes to us from Old Georgetown Swim and Tennis Club, where she achieved success as both a diver and a coach. She was a perennial All-Star for Old Georgetown during her diving days, and last year she coached them to a second place finish in MCDL’s highly competitive Division I. Katie also competed as a member of Montgomery Dive Club’s National Team and Walter Johnson High School’s dive team (Captain) until her graduation in 2014. In addition to working on a college degree, Katie is currently a part-time dive coach for Montgomery Dive Club.
The first practice is Tuesday, May 30! Practices will be held every weekday evening thereafter (except June 28 and July 12) as follows:
► 5:30 – 6:30 PM for divers 10 & under
► 6:30 – 7:30 PM for divers 11 & older
Weather may delay or cancel practice, so if in doubt- call the pool. In addition, the dive team hosts “Fun Friday” practices every week. This is a great opportunity for team parents to get to know one another, please join us!
- How to Register
The Dive and Swim teams will be holding a registration event on Wednesday, April 26th, 7:00-8:30pm at Farmland ES. If you can’t make it to the registration event or you decide afterwards that you want to join the dive team, no problem! You can register online via Old Farm’s TeamUnify page (link). If you have any questions about the team or how to register, just contact the team’s MCDL Dive Rep (see below).
- Diving for a Day
Unsure about registering your child for the dive team? No problem. In season, your child can try diving for a day. They can meet Coach Katie and the rest of the team and attend a trial practice. There is $15.00 fee to cover insurance (check made out to Old Farm Pool). Please contact the team’s MCDL Dive Rep if you are interested in having your child try diving for a day. You do not need to register your child unless he/she joins the team; however, we must receive the $15.00 insurance fee before your child participates in a trial practice.
The registration fee for 2017 is $135.00 per diver ($139.95 if paying by credit card). There is no concession fee this year.
**NOTE: You must register your child for the team or pay the $15.00 “Diving for a Day” insurance fee at least 24 hours before your child participates in his/her first dive team practice. This is required under MCDL’s bylaws. Any violation of this requirement could nullify Old Farm’s insurance coverage and possibly MCDL’s insurance coverage.

Dive meets require several parent volunteers from each team. Some jobs require certification, but other jobs can be quickly mastered by a rookie! We will provide a volunteer training for parents early in the season. We encourage all our dive parents to volunteer at every meet and to take the MCDL-sponsored training for Judges and Referees. A sign up sheet to volunteer for home and away meets will be posted later. In the meantime, keep an eye on your email for information about volunteer opportunities.
Being a Dive Judge is really easy and a fun way to learn about diving to support our kids! The training does not take long and the certification is valid for three seasons. As in the past, the MCDL will offer four training sessions for dive judges in 2017 — one of which will be held at Old Farm. Here are the dates and times of the training sessions:
► Sunday, June 11 (10:00 am) at Manor Woods
► Thursday, June 15 (6:30 pm) at Mohican
► Tuesday, June 20 (6:30 pm) at Glenwood
► Wednesday, June 21 (6:30 pm) at Old Farm
Doug Beavers, a “Big Wig” in the diving circle, is training this year. Please note that you do not have to register in advance for the training sessions. More information about the training sessions is available on the MCDL’s website (link).
