We are pleased to announce that our coaching staff for the 2015 season will be provided by FINS.

Head Coach Barry Mangold:

Coach Barry has been coaching at Old Farm since his last year as an MCSL swimmer at  Tilden Woods, and he’s ready to make this summer the best one yet!

Barry spent his first year at The University of Virginia on the Varsity Swim Team, but he recently finished his second year as the coach for the Club Swim Team as well as a sports anchor on two weekly news shows with other students. He was also a two-year captain at Walter Johnson High School, where he claimed numerous Maryland State and Metro individual and team championships. As a swimmer Barry brings an aura of showmanship to his races, sometimes even dancing right before his start, and as a coach he works to create a stress-free environment where everyone has fun while trying to be their best.

One of Barry’s favorite things to remember is what local swimming sensation Michael Raab shared with the Tilden Woods Swim Team about getting ready for races: “Don’t get nervous, get excited!” When you are comfortable and excited to be where you are, the possibilities are endless!

Head Coach Danny Charlip:

Danny spent 10 seasons swimming with the Old Farm Eagles until he aged out in 2013. He also swam for RMSC and for WJ for four years on the Varsity team. Danny enjoys being able to coach the team that he grew up swimming on, and he especially loves being able to teach young swimmers the same traditions and cheers that he was taught as a young swimmer. The strong community feel at his neighborhood pool makes him want to come back every year.  He is excited to compete against Division J competition while having fun everyday with the team this season.

Since 2013 Danny has been coaching with FINS where he has continued to learned the ins and outs of running an MCSL team and coaching over 100 swimmers ages 2 to 18. He cannot wait to start this season as co-Head Coach with his friend Barry who together will lead Old Farm to its best season yet!

Mike Scott:

Coach Mike has been a FINS Head Coach for the last 6 years and an Assistant Head Coach at Old Farm for the past two. Prior to that, he swam at Tilden Woods for 10 seasons where he developed into not only a great swimmer, but also a crazy and spirited character; making videos and designing meet themes since the age of 12.  Mike swam competitively in Potomac Valley Swimming for seven seasons and was also a contributor on the Walter Johnson Varsity team for all four years. Mike was also a Pre-Team Coach at Tilden Woods for one season.  Mike enjoys coaching and teaching both sides of swimming: the technical skills used in the pool to swim fast and the cheering and teamsmanship that are the real fuel to every team. Mike knows that you may remember a big race here and there, but you’ll always remember your friends and the fun times that you have on deck with each other.

Natsumi Horikawa:

Coach Natsumi just finished up her first year at Brown University where she was a member of the Varsity Swim and Dive Team and competed in the Ivy League Championships. She grew up swimming in MCSL as a Tilden Woods Dolphin. She also swam year round for Rockville Montgomery Swim Club and with Walter Johnson Swim and Dive for high school, where she was twice captain. She has coached with FINS in the years leading up to college and is excited for an amazing season with Old Farm! Natsumi is full of smiles; she loves to watch each and every one of her swimmers improve and enjoys cheering, doing spirits, and making lifelong friends!

Claudia Nguyen:

Coach Claudia began swimming at age nine with the Tilden Woods Dolphins, and swam with the team for nine seasons. She also swam competitively for four years on the Walter Johnson High School varsity swim team, and for seven years with RMSC. Claudia has also been coaching with FINS for several years, and loves working with kids to improve their swimming skills in a fun and exciting environment. She absolutely loves swimming and the team atmosphere that accompanies it, and is looking forward to coaching with the Old Farm Eagles for her second summer.

Coby Zucker:

Coby grew up with the Old Farms Eagles, swimming since he was 6 years old. He has swum competitively in Potomac Valley for over 10 years, was a member of the three-time Maryland state champion Walter Johnson Swim Team, and will continue swimming for the Division 1 Columbia Lions during his collegiate career. Coby enjoys seeing the swimmers he coaches progress and improve, but more that they are having fun and loving the sport of swimming. Go Old Farm!

Kristen Scott:

Coach Kristen swam at Tilden Woods for 10 seasons and swam competitively at RMSC for 8 seasons. Kristen has also been a member of the FINS coaching staff for 4 years. Last summer Kristen was a pre-team and Little Eagles assistant coach at Old Farm. Kristen loves to cheer on her swimmers at meets and knows that the spirit outside of the pool is just as important as the strokes you take during your race. GOOF!
