The biggest expense for a commercial community pool outside of operating expenses is the periodic “whitecoating” of the bottom of the pool. This process must be done about every 8 – 10 years at a cost of about $50,000, including both the main pool and the baby pool. It is the responsibility of the Old Farm Pool Board to make sure that we have the money when it is needed. It is only through careful saving over years and management of limited resources that we, actually, do have the money ready for our next whitecoat. It is the hope that our 2016 investment of $13,500 in the pool cover will allow us an extra 2 – 3 years. Our next whitecoat will be needed in the next 2 – 4 years.
