Browsing "General Announcements (pool closings, events)"
The Greater Farmland Civic Association (GFCA) is looking for pictures taken over the years of events at Old Farm Pool to include in the community photo album. If anyone has old photos, hopefully going back to the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s or 90’s of swim meets, events or other activities taken at Old Farm Pool, please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool
Just a quick note to say thanks to all the volunteers who helped make Saturday a very special July 4th at Old Farm Pool. I especially want to thank Katie Tietgen, Amantha Linke, Cindy Zelaya and the team of Chris and Dee Dee Loftt as well as all the others who helped organize activities, run concessions, flip burgers and dogs, paint faces, grease watermelons. After a rough start, the weather cooperated and we had a great day to enjoy the pool and spend time with neighbors and friends.
Thanks again for a great job!
As you may have read in an earlier post to the Old Farm Pool website, the community July 4th activities begin with our annual parade which winds from Farmland Elementary School to the Old Farm Pool. Shortly after everyone’s arrival at the pool, we will continue the fun with an action packed celebration which includes face painting, nail painting, relays, races, cannon ball competition, coin toss and sooooo much more. There will be lunch for sale from the grill and the concession stand too.
This event is fantastic but yes, it does takes a village to put it on. In fact, we can’t do it unless we get some volunteers. Please look for an activity or two you can assist with so that we can carry on this wonderful annual Old Farm Pool tradition. Thanks for signing up and let’s make this a July 4th to remember!
This message is provided by the Greater Farmland Civic Association:
It’s time to celebrate America with our Annual July 4th Parade! The Greater Farmland Civic Association invites one and all to join in the parade from Farmland Elementary School to Old Farm Pool, which will be open to everyone after the parade.
The parade starts at 10:00 am at Farmland. We will have flags, visors and tattoos for everyone to show their red, white and blue! Once again, we will have our local firefighters and police officers leading the parade.
If you have a convertible and want to show your neighborhood spirit by being in the parade, please let me know. Deck them out in your finest patriotic gear and fill them with your neighbors who can wave to the crowd! If you have one, you should show up a little early so that we can line you up
For the kids: start decorating your bikes, trikes, wagons or yourselves in red, white and blue!
We will be awarding prizes in the following categories:
- Best Wagon
- Best Stroller
- Best Bike with training wheels or Tricycle
- Best Bike
- Best Pet
- Most Patriotic
- Best other forms of transportation (scooters, rollerblades, basically, anything that is powered by humans but is not a bike).
We’re also looking for musicians to display their talents during the parade. It would be great to have a local band or group of musicians in the parade. If you want to do so, please let me or our resident musician, Marta Vogel (email@example.com) know.
Show your community spirit by sponsoring an American Flag! They will be lining the Parade Route and your family name will be prominently displayed underneath your flag. Your family can sponsor a flag for only $20.
Space is limited. Please sign up soon. If you wish to pay by cash or check (made out to GFCA), drop it off in an envelope, along with your name, address, phone number and how you wish to be recognized on the sign we will put under your flag at my house (11703 Hitching Post Lane. You can also pay with PayPal at www.greaterfarmland.org
IMPORTANT: A parade doesn’t happen by itself!!! We need volunteers to put up and take down the flags, sign up the contestants on the morning of the parade, put up and take down the street closing pylons, hand out the flags and visors, put on the tattoos and be judges for the parade. Please e-mail me as soon as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know how you wish to help.
Let’s have a great parade!

Pool membership is up, Swim and Dive teams are in full swing with lots of new faces and the water temperature is perfect. Come on up and enjoy the pool.
A note from our friends at TildenWood pool:
Monday 6/15, TW hosts an End of School Party form 2 PM to 4 PM. All middle school aged kids and younger are welcome to come to the pool where we’ll have games, fun activities, and snacks, featuring Carmen’s Italian Ice. (Old Farms members are welcome as if it were a “swap day”. Normal guest policies apply to other friends.)
Just a reminder, if you have not seen it, we have prominently posted a list of all the pool rules on the wall of the pool house near the ladies locker room. Please take a moment to review them as our Lifeguard staff is strictly enforcing the rules.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the pool!
From Coach Jessie: There is still plenty of summer left to join the young, enthusiastic OF dive team. Winter Gymnasts can cool-off with summer fun or kids interested in learning a new sport with lots of area training available year-round. Stop by the dive-well between 5-7pm to meet Coach Jessie and the kids.
Greetings all! The 2015 season is off to a great start. It is nice seeing all of you return and I’d like to welcome our new members.
We have received some very positive feedback about out new membership management system and it is proving to be a great asset in tracking who is at the pool.
I would like to remind all of you that there should be no food or drink on the pool deck. Please keep all food and liquid refreshments either on the patio or at the tables at the edge of the deck. Thanks for your cooperation on this.
As a reminder, Saturday June 6th is the Wine and Cheese event at the pool starting at 7:00 pm. We are happy to have the Whippoorwills return this year to provide us music for the evening.
A highly scientific study was recently conducted and its findings were fascinating. It concluded that second only to the first day of school, the Old Farm Pool Adult Wine and Cheese Party is the most celebrated day of the year for parents in the Old Farm community.
So get that sitter, find something for those teens to go do and plan to have a great time with your neighbors at the pool Saturday night. Tickets purchased by June 1st are only $20 each, but go up to $25 after that date.

The two pools in the Greater Farmland community, Old Farm and Tilden Woods, have been a source of fun, relaxation and excitement in the community for many, many years.
As presidents of our respective pools, we wanted to remind the community and our members that the long tradition of membership exchange days continues. On Tuesdays and Thursdays members from each pool can enjoy the amenities at the other pool as if you were a member.
Each pool will be implementing a computer based check-in system. Therefore the process, although simple, will be different than previous years. When you get to the front desk at either pool, sign in on the membership log with your first & last name and and tell the person at the front desk which pool you’re from and who your “pool sponsor” is when visiting. Remember, both of our neighborhood pools require a member to sponsor any guests. After your first visit, your name will be added to the pools’ computer based check-in systems, however you may still be asked to sign in on the membership log for subsequent visits.
Please note that on all other days (non-exchange days), members of one pool will be considered as a guest at the other pool. Normal guest fees and guest policies will apply on non-exchange days.
We really look forward to our members taking advantage of the opportunity to spend time with their friends at the other pool and enjoy all that the neighborhood has to offer.
Wishing you a wonderful summer,
Bruce Kay and David Sukinik
