It’s almost here, the 2015 swim team season! Once again, we are very pleased to announce that FINS will be back at Old Farm and has hired a terrific team to coach the Eagles this summer. Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs
Registration for the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs will not be accepted until after the pool has opened. Those swimmers interested in the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs can sign up for an assessment session on Registration Night or online via Signup Genius but will be able to register only after an assessment has been conducted.
This year, in order to maintain a safe environment and to ensure quality instruction for our youngest swimmers, assessments will be conducted on all swimmers interested in the Pre-Team and Little Eagles Programs prior to registration. Assessment sessions will be held June 1st-5th. Each swimmer should sign up for one assessment slot. During assessments, swimmers will be evaluated by the coaching staff to determine the appropriate group placement based on the criteria for each of the programs (see program descriptions below). Coaches will make swimmer placement recommendations by 6/5/15. Practices for both LE/PT will begin on 6/8.
In order to reduce the size of instruction groups and to minimize closures of the shallow section during the busy afternoon hours, Little Eagles afternoons will meet twice a week—either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday (date swaps cannot be accommodated). Little Eagles morning swimmers will have access to practice five days per week. Groups will be limited to 12 swimmers per session. The registration fee for both programs (a.m. and p.m.) will be the same as it is for swim team. Minimum requirements for participation are:
- Age 4 or older and fully toilet trained
- Comfortable putting face into the water and blowing bubbles.
- Comfortable in the pool under the supervision of OF coaches and in a group environment
The Pre-Team will meet 4/5 times per week (depending on B meets) in either the afternoon or morning. Swimmers need to commit to either the morning or afternoon sessions. The Pre-Team groups will be limited to 14 swimmers per session. Minimum requirements for participation are:
- Must be able to swim the length of the diving well unassisted and have the stamina to do so a few times in a row under coach supervision.
- Must have a general understanding of freestyle and are familiar with the basic components of the stroke
**Please note: During Pre-Team and Little Eagles practices, parents are invited to watch from a distance. The coaches need space to work with the children without parents immediately next to the swimmers. If you feel that your child is not ready to participate in practice without your encouragement, they are probably not ready for these programs. Private and group lessons are available from FINS for those swimmers needing a little more attention.
The activities just keep coming at Old Farm Pool. The latest program to be introduced for this season is water aerobics. We will be offering 16 classes too. Choose between eight shallow water workouts each Sunday morning or eight aqua zumba each Thursday night. Of course you can take all 16 too. Registration is very limited, so consider signing up today. More details can be found on our Water Aerobics page.
We are happy to announce we will once again host a Masters Swim program at the pool this year. Tollefson Swimming will be offering the program beginning June 8th each Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning through August 7th. Members and non-members alike are welcomed! More details here.
Interested in learning pickleball? Now is your chance! We’re hosting an adult Pickleball Open House at the Club this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am – 12:00pm, then again from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Paddles and balls will be provided along with some instruction on pickleball basics. Play will be on a doubles, round robin format. Everyone should get a chance to swing a racquet and get a feel for the game.
Pickleball continues to grow in popularity with courts springing up around the county. A great way for young and old to burn calories, increase flexibility and get to know your neighbors. We hope all will want to try out this new fun sport.
Please contact our board member Rob Follit (240) 401-2976 with any Pickleball related questions.
Fire up your social calendar (remember that?) because we’ve got several fun activities planned at the pool. The Adult Wine & Cheese Party is always a favorite. It’s a great chance to exit your long winter hibernation and visit with neighbors again back at the pool. We’ve setup a Facebook Event page for our 2015 Wine & Cheese Party, so make sure and go to that page and mark that you will be attending.
Tickets are on sale now for only $20. The price will go up to $25 after June 1st.
This one is going to be cool. On May 16th, we will have our first social event at the pool. And what better way to kick things off than with a live band. Covering songs from the 90s through current, these guys have played all the local watering holes including Union Jacks in Gaithersburg, Growlers, Green Turtle and more. We’re welcoming both members and members-to-be (aka non-members) to this event. This one is a guaranteed fun time.
Tickets are available now (we’re expecting this to sell out) so grab ’em now:
- Members: $10/each
- Non-members: $20/each
Be sure and RSVP that you’re coming on our Old Farm Pool 2015 Rockin’ Kickoff Party Facebook event page!
Last week, we started accepting memberships for the 2015 season. And like in the past, we’re offering you a great way to save a few bucks on your membership with our early bird program. To take advantage of the discounted rate, please get your membership order in no later than April 30th. Memberships are available to new and of course renewing families.
New this year is the Old Farm Pool membership management system. This system allows you to sign up for your membership right now (both checks and credit cards are accepted). What’s more, we will be using this system to better assist our staff at the pool for checking you and your family in at each visit. To streamline that process, all members will be provided an Old Farm Pool membership card. Just like a gym membership, you will be able to “zap” you card as you walk-in and the system will automagically check you and yours in.
If you haven’t already signed up for your 2015 Old Farm Pool membership, below are a few links that will assist you in the signup process.
Spring is the perfect time to prepare for the upcoming summer diving season! Let the professionals at Montgomery Dive Club help you to get ready for your best summer of diving ever. Coaches Nikki Glazer, Katie Routh and Chloe Kim are bringing fresh excitement and diving expertise to our Human Springs classes this session at Germantown Indoor Swim Center.
Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced classes available.

In the coming weeks, you will be getting a great deal of information regarding the 2015 season, including membership renewal details, swim and dive team signups and more. In the meantime, we thought it would be helpful to share with you that we’ve posted a lot of information already on the pool’s calendar — primarily all of the dive and swim meet information. So if you’re wanting to plan your summer holiday around your kiddo’s activities, check out the pool calendar now.
Subscribe to what you need
Our pool’s calendar can be easily synchronized to you own personal calendar. To do so, visit the calendar page on our website, then click on the “Subscribe” button at the bottom of the page. Once you do that, you will see various choices based on the type of calendar you wish to synchronize (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, etc). Just click the appropriate link and follow the instructions. Pretty simple. The nice thing about this is that if there is ever a change or addition to the pool calendar, that change will be automagically applied to your own calendar too.
But I don’t want to subscribe to everything
Fear not. You don’t have to subscribe to all categories of information at the pool. Let’s say you just want to know when the social activities will be taking place. In that case, click on the “Categories” filter at the top of the calendar page. From there, you would select “General Events.” Once that is selected, you will see the calendar items below filter to just that category. Need to subscribe to two or more categories? You can do that too. Just use the Control key (PC) or Command key (Mac) to ad-hoc select the categories you need. Once you have your filter established, then go down to the bottom and select subscribe (pick your calendar type) and following the subsequent instructions for your particular calendar.
I promise this is very easy to do 🙂
Greetings Old Farm Swim and Paddle Tennis Club Members!
Despite the cold February weather, the Board of Directors is already hard at work planning for the 2015 swim season. I’d like to start by welcoming our newest Board member, Cindy Zelaya, who will be working as our Director for Special Projects. She replaces Suzanne Stack who retired from the Board last year. We also welcome Shannon Dietrich as our new Bookkeeper. She replaces Mary Beth May who served as our bookkeeper for several years. Thank you for a job well done and welcome to our new Board members.
As we finalize the budget for 2015 and prepare to announce our dues structure, let me tell you about what we are planning. First and most important, we have discussed with Georgetown Aquatics, our Management Company, the importance of the guard staff enforcing all the pool rules. We want to make sure your safety is our first priority and enforcement of the rules will help provide the safe environment we all want.
We are presently configuring new membership management software for the 2015 season that will allow for more controlled access to the pool. This software will require members to electronically check-in upon arrival at the pool. We will soon be providing more information on this software, the membership renewal process, the 2015 dues, and the check-in procedure.
As for physical changes and upgrades for the 2015 season, we are currently planning on replacing the pool pump motors and filter system. The current system, although very effective, is 50 years old and has been expensive to repair and maintain over the years. In fact, last season we had to go to extraordinary means to keep the system functioning. The new filter system will be installed before the start of the season. We will also be purchasing additional round pool tables, chairs and umbrellas to provide additional seating around the deck.
We are planning several other modifications and upgrades, most of which might not be as obvious to you, but we hope will enhance your experience at the pool.
Looking forward to a great 2015 season!
