Mark your calendars for June 3rd!
From 11am – 1pm, kids ages 7-13 will get to learn about the fastest growing sport in the world! TRIATHLON!
Even if your kids aren’t signed up for a triathlon (yet), they will be excited to use their SWIM, BIKE and RUN skills in a new and exciting sport.
They will learn and practice:
- essential skills for the three sports
- effective transition techniques
- race etiquette
- self training techniques
- basics of healthy eating and race day nutrition
In addition, kids in the clinic will complete a mini triathlon event!
There are plenty of Kids’ TRIs this summer and a list of races will be provided.
This clinic is limited in size! The cost of the clinic is $20. To confirm your child’s space in the clinic, please RSVP by by contacting Coach Christina Dorrer at Christina@fit2Bkids.com
Feel free to let your Farmland friends know too! Click here for more information.
Soon, the pool will be open again. Kids will be out of school and summer will be in full swing. The Old Farm Pool has a great calendar to keep your family up-to-date on all of the pool’s activities. Head over to oldfarmpool.org/calendar and you will find all of our activities detailed out:
- General events (pool opening, closing)
- Social activities
- Dive and Swim Events
- Paddle Tennis
- Masters Swim and Aerobics
What’s more, for the techies out there, you can easily subscribe to our calendar too and have it automagically sync with your personal calendar too such as Outlook, iCal. Just click on the “Subscribe” link at the bottom of the calendar and you will be set!
If you’re wondering what you can do to help spruce up around the Club, look no further! We are going to take advantage of the wonderful weather we seem to be enjoying and are calling for volunteers to come join us at the pool this weekend and next weekend in our annual battle to remove the leaves.
Please bring a rake (or a leaf blower if you have one) and a pair of work gloves and plan to put in a few quality hours in the cause of beautifying our Summer play ground.
Please call Rob Follit if you (and family members) think you can join us for some pre-season fun in the sun. (301) 770-5094. The task is to gather all the leaves that have accumulated inside the fence and drag them across the parking lot and dump them in the woods. Blue tarps will be provided for your dragging pleasure.
Thanks for helping out at our community pool!
Who can believe it is already March and the pool opens for the 2012 season in about 11 weeks! Your Board of Directors has been working hard on finalizing the operating budget for the upcoming season and I am pleased to report that regular dues will remain the same, as they have since 2009. You will be receiving your invoice in the mail for the upcoming season shortly. As with previous seasons, we ask you to take advantage of the Early Bird rates in order to reduce your dues payment.
Despite not having increased dues, your Board has been diligently working to provide you with increased services and equipment to make your pool experience more enjoyable. We have completely repaired and replaced the flagstone in the picnic area, repaired the volleyball court, upgraded and repaired the paddle tennis courts, begun replacement of our aging deck furniture with new lounge chairs, upright chairs and umbrellas, purchased a new sound system and upgraded the website to keep everyone informed of events and important information.
Here it is, the middle of February and we are already well on our way thinking about the 2012 swim season at the pool. As a quick recap of what the Board of Directors has been doing since the last update, first and most important is that during the General Membership Meeting conducted in November 2011, our members elected the Board of Directors for the 2012 season. We welcomed Suzanne Stack to the Board and said farewell to Jill Ray, who retired from the Board after many years of service.
The 2012 Board of Directors includes the following members:
- Bruce Kay – President (Pool Operations, Guard Liaison)
- Griff Lindsay – Vice President (Swim Team, Pool Operations, Special Projects)
- Rob Follit – Treasurer (Maintenance)
- Jay Matson – Recording Secretary (Swim Team)
- Scott Speier – (Paddle Tennis, Special Projects)
- Dave Ohlrich – (Guard Liaison, Pool Operations)
- Marla Caplon – (Social Activities, Concessions)
- Ed Rich – (Buildings and Grounds, Special Projects)
- Debbie Labonski – (Social Activities, Merchandise)
- Pat May – (Membership, Information Technology/Website)

Due to some very techie reasons, we had to move our Old Farm Swim and Paddle Tennis Club Facebook Page. Please “Friend” us at our new home on Facebook here. Tell a friend!
Although there is no damage to the pool, like most of our neighborhood, there are lots of branches and yard waste that must be cleaned from the pool and deck area before we can re-open.
It is hard to believe that the 2011 pool season is coming to a close. Below is the schedule for our final week of the 2011 season as well as a reminder to please check the Lost and Found shelves as all items will either be dontate or thrown away once the season ends.

Check the Lost and Found Area

Back by popular demand (we hope!). We will continue to offer early morning lap swimming on Monday-Wednesday-Friday until August 26th from 5:45am-7:15am.
We must have a minimum of 7 participants…
The cost per person will be only $25 for the entire period (cost covers all 6 sessions). Mina Erickson, who has been training our Master Swimmers will continue to oversee the Master swimmers and watch any others who want to come up and swim a few laps before going to work. Please bring your cash or check (made out to Old Farm Pool) with you on Monday morning when you sign in.
Old Farm Pool is planning a cooperative crab feast. What is that? We will get crabs to the pool, but would expect help with set-up, clean up, and drinks/sides from all participants.
The 2 dates are a Monday or Tuesday, August 15 or 16. This is because we expect the price to be less on these days, as opposed to Friday or Saturday prices.
This is not intended as a money maker, just a ice chance to get together and partake in a local tradition. In order to work this out, we need a real number of who is wanting to participate and commit to coming. Kids 9 and over count as one eater.
Please think about this, and send your name and number of pickers to email@example.com. Comments are welcome.
