Women’s Invitational Tournament – aka “The February Frostbite”

The weather for the WIT was 20 degrees warmer than the 2021 tournament, but…Saturday was cold and beautiful weather for the Womens Invitational – or, maybe soon to be renamed “The Frostbite Tournament”.  Next year, maybe it will be another 20 degrees warmer.

Clubs from all over the area sent teams to compete. Between matches, the competitors enjoyed warm drinks, a bonfire, and great food.  One thing that can be said about cold weather, a roaring firepit is pretty awesome to sit next to while waiting for the next match.  The format allowed players to meet and compete against players they normally wouldn’t.

The semis pitted ladies of Columbia(LeBlanc/Cassidy) against a home team Old Farm duo (Beth Hunter and Liz Browne) who prevailed in a 3-set tiebreaker. In the other semi, Regina Reed from Old Farm and her partner from Congressional(Wallace) outlasted Duncan(Old Farm) and her partner from Columbia(Coogan) in another 3-setter.

Finals had three Old Farm women in it as the weather finally warmed up.

Liz Browne and Beth Hunter won the finals in three setter…………..

ALL IN ALL A WONDERFUL DAY ENJOYED BY ALL TEAMS !!!
