Welcome to the 2018 Season at Old Farm Pool!

Welcome to the 2018 Season at Old Farm Pool and Happy Memorial Day Weekend! During the off-season, the Old Farm Pool Board worked hard to make improvements to our physical plant and to plan a exciting summer for all of our members.

We hope you will notice our improvements. After many years of deterioration, the parking lots were resurfaced, which also allowed us include a second pickleball court in the lower lot. We have taken down a number of dead trees and installed some new plantings around the deck. We also installed a new sign at the beginning of Swim Club Way and our beautiful pavilion now has lights and fans. We hope that members will readily see how much the pool facilities are improved each year thanks to your yearly dues. As a community-supported club, we couldn’t do this without you!

We hope you will participate in some of the many activities we offer at the pool. In addition to our swim team and dive team, we have a full slate of social activities planned for our adults, kids, and families. We also have masters swimming, triathlon training, and water aerobics. Please check out our website or our display cabinets for important information on all of these activities.

Here are a few other bits of information that you may find useful:

Operating hours: Please link to our website for details here.

Membership: Maintaining a full membership is vital to the health of our community pool. If you haven’t already renewed your membership for 2018, please do so now. Information on renewing your membership can be found here. You can also contact our membership volunteers with questions at membership@oldfarmpool.org.

Electronic Scan Entry: We will again be using our electronic scan entry system at the front desk. Your membership cards from last year should work again this year. If you need a new membership card, please ask the front desk attendant when you come to the Club. New members can pick up their membership cards from the front desk.

We look forward to seeing you at the pool in 2018!

Regards,

John Hudalla

A Note About July 4 at Old Farm

May 27, 2018   //   by President   //   General Announcements (pool closings, events), News  //  No Comments

For years, Old Farm Pool has opened to everyone (including non-members) after the annual Greater Farmland Civic Association (GFCA) parade on July 4. Although we have been happy to be a part of this great neighborhood tradition, the crowds after the parade have grown so large that the Board no longer feels that it is safe to host this event. We have also heard from many members who would like to take part in our July 4th celebration, but nonetheless avoid the pool due to overcrowding.

For these reasons, the Board has decided to limit entry on July 4 to members (and their guests, subject to our normal guest pass policies). We did not make this decision lightly, and we understand that some people will be disappointed. Still, we think that our decision will result in a more enjoyable day for our members. We also think it’s the right move from a safety perspective. As an alternative to July 4, the Board is considering hosting a community day in August when we will open to non-members. We also continue to host many, many events that are open to our community.

We still intend to have all of the great July 4th games and activities that we always have had at Old Farm. The only change members will notice is that GFCA is likely to alter the parade route so that it does not end at Old Farm.

Dive Team — Try Diving for Just $15

May 20, 2018   //   by Dive Team   //   General Announcements (pool closings, events)  //  No Comments

If you have children who want to make a big splash at Old Farm this summer, the Dive Team is the place for them! Between May 29 and June 15, children can attend up to a week of practices for just $15 per diver. It is a great way for children to meet the team and see what diving is all about without making a summer-long commitment. Contact Lizzy Menard (202-210-2008 or lizzynelson@hotmail.com) or David Markert (301-512-9659 or markerts.us@gmail.com) if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity.

Try Pickleball This Sunday Morning

You say you don’t know what Pickleball is????  Come out on Sundays in May between 9 and 12 and see.  Rob will help you out!

Here is the general idea:

A paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

  • A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.
  • Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net.
  • Played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes.
  • Played as doubles or singles.
