If you have children who want to make a big splash at Old Farm this summer, the Dive Team is the place for them!  The team offers a great opportunity for children to learn new skills, experience the excitement of competitive diving, and bond with other kids in the community.  And while winning isn’t everything, the Dive Team has had a nice run of success recently, finishing tied for first in Division IV of the Montgomery County Diving League (MCDL) each of the past three years.

In 2019, Old Farm will again be in Division IV of the MCDL.  Any full family pool member between the ages of 5 and 18 who has successfully completed the swim test required by our pool operator may join the team.  Children of all ability levels are welcome to join the Dive Team–no prior diving experience is required.

We hope to see you at the diving well this summer.

How to Register for the Dive Team

The Dive and Swim teams will be holding a joint registration event on Tuesday, April 30th, 7:00-8:30pm at Farmland ES.  You can meet the Dive Team’s rep at this event and ask any questions you might have about the summer diving program.  And of course, you can also register for the Dive Team and pay the registration fees at this event.

If you can’t make it to the registration event or you decide afterwards that you want to join the Dive Team, no problem!  You can register online.  Just click the button below to get started!

Registration Fees

The registration fee is $145 per diver ($150.80 if paying by credit card).  Make your check out to “Old Farm Swim and Paddle Tennis Club” and write “Dive Team Fees” on the memo line.  To pay by credit card, please visit Old Farm’s online store (link).

Please note that no refunds will be offered for Dive Team registration fees after the first dive meet.  Refunds will be offered before the first dive meet only with a signed doctor’s note stating that the child is not to participate in diving activities for at least 8 weeks due to a medical condition.

Diving Demo Program

Unsure about registering your child for the Dive Team?  Then you should try our Diving Demo program.  Under this program, which is only available between May 28 and June 14, children can attend up to a week of practices for just $15 per diver.  It is a great way for children to meet the team and see what diving is all about.

**NOTE:  You must register your child for the Dive Team or pay the $15 fee for the Diving Demo program at least 24 hours before your child participates in his/her first practice.  This is required under MCDL’s bylaws.  Any violation of this requirement could nullify Old Farm’s insurance coverage and possibly MCDL’s insurance coverage.

If you have any questions about the Dive Team, registration, or the Diving Demo program, please contact Lizzy Menard (202-210-2008 or lizzynelson@hotmail.com) or David Markert (301-512-9659 or markerts.us@gmail.com).

Important Info for the 2019 Season

New Team Suit!

Old Farm is switching to the Speedo Reigning Light swimsuit (Navy/Red/White color) for the 2019 season. Click here for images of the women’s suit and here for images of the men’s jammer suit. If your diver likes to compete in briefs, we recommend the Speedo Launch Splice Endurance suit in Navy/Red/White. You can order the Speedo Reigning Light swimsuit from Capital Sport and Swim in Kensington. Suits will also be available for purchase at the registration event on Tuesday, April 30th (see above).

TeamSnap

The Dive Team uses TeamSnap to communicate with parents and track diver availability for meets. You will receive an invite to join TeamSnap if your child registers for the Dive Team.

Practice Schedule

The first practice is Tuesday, May 28!  Practices will be held every weekday evening thereafter (except 6/4, 6/26, 7/2, and 7/4) as follows:

► 5:30 – 6:30 PM for divers 10 & under

► 6:30 – 7:30 PM for divers 11 & older

We are flexible on the practice times. If your child has a conflict at the assigned practice time, they can go to the other practice. For example, if your 9-year-old child has swim practice until 6:15, they are welcome to join the 11 & older divers at the 6:30 practice slot. Just let the dive team reps (see below) know in advance.

Note that weather may delay or cancel practice, so if in doubt call the pool.  In addition, the Dive Team hosts “Fun Friday” practices every week.  This is a great opportunity for team parents to get to know one another.  Please join us!

Parent Participation

Dive meets require several parent volunteers from each team. Some jobs require certification, but other jobs can be quickly mastered by a rookie! We will provide a volunteer training for parents early in the season.  We encourage all our dive parents to volunteer at every meet and to take the MCDL-sponsored training for Judges and Referees.  A sign up sheet to volunteer for home and away meets will be posted later.  In the meantime, keep an eye on your email for  information about volunteer opportunities.

Being a Dive Judge is really easy and a fun way to learn about diving to support our kids!  The training does not take long and the certification is valid for three seasons.  As in the past, the MCDL will offer four training sessions for dive judges in 2019.  Here are the dates and times of the training sessions:

►  Sunday, June 9 (10:00 am) at Country Glen

►  Wednesday, June 12 (6:30 pm) at Merrimack

►  Thursday, June 13 (6:30 pm) at Rock Creek

►  Monday, June 17 (6:30 pm) at Westleigh

Doug Beavers, a “Big Wig” in the diving circle, is training this year.   Please note that you do not have to register in advance for the training sessions.  More information about the training sessions is available on the MCDL’s website (link).

Meet Our Coaches

Head Coach:  Katie Young

This will be Katie’s third year as Old Farm’s head dive coach. Previously, Katie coached at Old Georgetown Swim and Tennis Club, where she achieved success as both a diver and a coach.  She was a perennial All-Star for Old Georgetown during her diving days, and coached them to a second place finish in MCDL’s highly competitive Division I in 2016.  Katie also competed as a member of Montgomery Dive Club’s National Team and Walter Johnson High School’s dive team (Captain) until her graduation in 2014. In addition to working on a college degree, Katie is currently a part-time dive coach for Montgomery Dive Club.

Assistant Coach:  Jackie Jacobson

We are excited to welcome Jackie back to Old Farm after her sophmore year at Elon University. She is a long-time pool member and Old Farm Dive Team veteran with several All-Star appearances under her belt. In fact, as most returning dive families know, Jackie was Old Farm’s head dive coach in 2016–our first winning season in, well, forever. We can’t wait to see you back on deck, Jackie!
